UAT Matriculation: 5 students gets VC’s high flyers award

Five students of the Bayelsa State Government-owned University of Africa Toru-Orua, UAT, have
received the Vice-Chancellor’s High Flyers Award in cash prizes.
The cash awards for matriculating students with the highest JAMB scores of between Ten to Fifty
Thousand Naira were presented to them during the 2022/2023 matriculation ceremony at University
of Africa Toru-Orua on Friday, 2nd June 2023.
While presenting the cash prizes, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kingston Nyamapfene, said the idea
was rooted in reward for academic excellence, a pillar of the University of Africa.
He charged the matriculants to dedicate themselves to utilizing various learning opportunities offered
by UAT to broaden their knowledge base for career advancement after graduation.
The Vice-Chancellor further noted that the University of Africa Toru-Orua will continue to equip its
students with the right skills and technological competencies for national development and global
competitiveness.
Professor Kingston Nyamapfene commended the efforts of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic,
Professor Barclays Ayakoroma, for introducing strategies that have boosted the student population and
strengthened the institutionalization of UAT core values.
A father, Mr Obinna Edemobi, who accompanied his matriculating son in the Department of History
and International Studies eulogized the management of UAT for its uniqueness and innovative
approach to giving students the right grooming; while his son, Mr Chimejitem Obinna, expressed his
desire to graduate with a First Class.
About one thousand matriculants subscribed to the oath of allegiance and were admitted into the
The University of Africa Toru-Orua for various degree programmes.
