Prof. Ademola Ayodeji Jolayemi

Professor of English & Digitised Linguistics. Born in Ibadan, Oyo State in March 20, 1959, ‘Demola Jolayemi (also known as Ademola Ayodeji Jolayemi) is a native of Owode Ofaro in Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State, Nigeria. He has lectured courses in the English studies in Nigeria and the University of Technology, Chemnitz, Germany, Department of English Linguistics, with specialty in the English Phonetics and Phonology. He also examines Master and Doctoral degrees in English, and Communication Arts in the Universities of Ibadan (UI), Ekiti (EKSU) and Abeokuta (FUNAAB). He has supervised many theses at the undergraduate, master and doctoral levels. He is a regular Professorial assessor for a number of Universities in Nigeria.

His application of the computer software to the teaching and analysis of oral communication and acoustics also makes him an expert in the digitised Linguistics. In the last decade, he has advocated for a shift from the old conservative paradigm of teaching spoken sound courses in classrooms and language laboratories, which makes the class dreary and distractive. Rather, has called for the use of the Digitised Linguistics Science Laboratory (DLSL), which provides acoustic evidence, and allows the learners to also see, and analyse by themselves what they hear and say, in addition to what they listen to and repeat.

Philosophy and Objectives

The Faculty of Arts and Education is strategically located within the philosophy of educating the individual for the total benefit of the whole of the humanity in a humane way with lots of humour yet, encompassing many pedagogical implications. To achieve this, the Faculty aims to produce undergraduates that are self-sufficient in learning and skills with great self-esteem. The curricula are properly spaced to engender the independence of the mind, and adequately spiced in order to enshrine the liberal psyche that will reborn learned gentlemen and ladies.

Specifically, our objectives are within a spectrum of the production of all-round professionals for the local and international markets.

This also captures all the language-based genres and communication-foregrounded typologies. Our courses in the literary appreciation and criticism, as well as those in the theatrical terrain, guarantee entrepreneurial skills supplanted in the acquisition of a long-life livelihood. The chronicles of the happenings, past and present, and the participation in international discourse and diplomacy form, also, a part of the Faculty objectives.

As the society is mirrored from the quality and quantity of the prevailing principles and practice of its education, and in order to achieve an all-round development and incandescence of the said society, the Faculty disposes to pedagogical and vocational courses that lead to industrial and educational counselling and guidance. Lastly but by no means the least, all the academic impaction expected of our graduates is geared toward knowledge, intelligence, and service in order to serve the humanity with humility
